Importance of internships for students 


1.How important is internships for students pursuing undergraduate law programmes?



To pursue legal career, internship is mandatory as per the latest Bar Council of India norms. It provides an opportunity for students to strengthen their knowledge on procedural areas of law, gain exposure to a real work environment and provide valuable support to a legal employer, and in turn make them a smart lawyer. Internship blends classroom teaching with court room teaching. The wide legal and corporate interface given during the internship ensures this perfect mix of business insight and legal intellect. 


2. How does college organize internship for students? Do students find internship on their own?
The Placement Assistance Cell conducts meeting with the students of Law College as per the schedule mentioned in the academic calendar. Orientation programs are conducted with the help of professionals to enlighten the students the opportunities available in law firms, lawyers, courts, commissions and NGOs for placement and internship.

Interested students can make an online application for assistance as per the area of their interest mentioning the probable workplace, location and schedule of time. The college issues recommendation letters to the concerned authorities highlighting the merit of the student concerned and his area of interest. The college publishes annually a booklet for placement and internship as a ready reckoner to the students.

4. How do you measure performance during internship and how much weightage is it given in academic performance in different academic years?

Student’s performance is assessed through the project report  given at the end of the internship by the student and the place of internship. Based on the project report given, the appreciation certificate issued and the place of work ,student is given weight age in the internal exams.

5. What are the key areas that you evaluate while assessing internship performance of students?

It plays a key role in co-coordinating placement activities and guiding the students for their successful career placement. It acts as an interface between the academic process of the student and their entry into the legal world outlook.
It optimizes on the preference of the students whereby Companies, Law Firms, LPO’s and other organizations are invited to participate in pre-placement talks (PPT) at college campus. It helps the students to understand the expectations of the company better and create an opportunity to clarify the queries regarding the same. Thus the students make a more informed choice in their preferential ranking.



Placement Week is held in three phases in December, January and February wherein recruiters from top law firms, corporate houses and other agencies visit the campus. The recruiters give a brief presentation about their organizational structure, pay package, area of work etc. followed by personal interview. The student here is tested and weighed at every possible stage. The final test being the screening conducted by the RAC before they step into Legal Arena.
